i recently finished shooting a short film directed by uk music video director, tom oswald. written by both tom and chase polan, the film is being completed by the mill in london. tom recently got repped by fallout entertainment and will be moving stateside later this year - and be bringing the completed piece back with him!
here are some screengrabs that i took off of the red footage and have been sending around to a few people. hope you enjoy them while i find a chance to cut a teaser trailer for my reel.

my friend and director, bo mirosseni, is currently in cannes at the young director awards for our virgin mobile spot, "bridal shower". the ceremony takes place on june 24th -
i sure hope that we win first prize! either way, it is a huge honor for him as many fantastic commercial directors have garnered much success from this awards show.

a few days ago i pushed the "confirm order" button on the apple store website. i ordered a fully decked out, anti-glare screen 17" macbook pro and it's finally on the way. i'm so excited and find
myself checking the fedex tracking number every few hours.

location location location

last night i went location scouting with my friends, david roth and mickey finnegan. we tooled around downtown los angeles in dave's yellow van while sneaking into parking structures and walking
down the urban cityscape trying to find locations for our separate projects. mickey and i were scouting for gritty and beautiful locations for our upcoming nike spot, while dave was trying
to find the perfect parking garage for his kahlua commercial.
i'm really excited to lens this nike spot because i'm such a big fan of that epic, raw-naturalness (not a real word) that the concept requires. we're also going to shoot using all-natural lighting
at night which, as you can probably tell by my photography, is something i really enjoy.

patience is an excuse

to be honest, i'm not really sure how much longer i'm going to be able to hold out on buying one of these. as i begin to travel more and more on shoots, my burning desire for a laptop becomes more of an actual need. compound that with my lack of current ability to use apple color or final cut studio to cut a
montage reel and it becomes clear that i have to rectify this sad state of affairs - and soon!

i got my current alienware desktop pc over 6 years ago, and it still runs non-modern games and creative programs very well. of course, part of the reason i backup all of my files routinely is that
i'm worried it's going to go up in flames any second. i'm still in awe as to how smoothly my desktop handles everything, but i guess it's less surprising considering that it was the top of the
line computer at the time.

a while ago, i also swapped to a new agp video card which my friend patrick rinaldi was kind enough to donate to my old system. my current motherboard doesn't even support the now standard pci-express slot.

i picked up a g-technologies 1tb hard drive the other day so that i could backup all of my vital files and store my projects at maximum resolution. while i know many people have large
raid arrays, this drive should suffice for quite a while unless i start to color my own projects.

i recently finished shooting a second video for the electro-rock-punk band, hyper crush. entitled "robotech", the video is entirely greenscreen and should boast some impressive
motion graphics work. the project should be out of post and finished in about a month.
on a related note, hyper crush was recently signed to universal motown, so congratulations to them and hopefully there'll be future projects to follow!

making a case for yourself

i recently bought myself a pelican case to put my precious light meters in. i can fit my incident and reflective meters inside and i even made space for extra batteries so
i don't have to ask my assistants for new ones on set. not only did i do that, but i ordered a custom label to affix to the nearly indestructible box - and boy does it ever
look good! somehow, in a cool yet childish way, the label combined with the case make everything seem more official.

two for the road

i recently finished shooting two more spec-commercials for bo mirosseni: clorox and starburst. they are both very funny and i can't wait for them to be finished
so i can post it on here for you guys to see. i'm quite proud of how they turned out. the concepts for both projects were really good, and as much as i want to
just type it all out, you'll just have to wait for the edited spots to come out. i estimate they should be finished in a few weeks time.
to your right you'll see some preliminary graded images which i borrowed from our still photographer on set. they aren't a reliable indication of the final product
obviously, but they'll give you an idea of what the ridiculous subject matter was for each of the commercials: humicorns (half human half unicorn people) for starburst,
and a super white guy dancing super white-like for clorox.

make it better

i love wallpaper. let's just make that clear right now. but what i enjoy even more is wallpaper involving gorgeous automobiles. and yet,
even more than that, i love finding a good wallpaper that i can make better through digital grading so i feel like i accomplished something
when i slap it onto my giant 24" widescreen monitor.
as an example, to the right you will find before and after photos of the new audi rs8. the original photo is from audi, so all credits are
theirs and theirs alone. i merely spruced the image up a little to offset it from normal. the retouched photo is solely for private use. feel
free to use either one as your own wallpaper.
picture resolution is a lovely 1920 x 1200.

finally i did something right

after years of waiting, i have finally finished the redesign of my site. i'm sorry it has taken so long. you see, at first, i had grand schemes of
redefining website design until i realized that what i really needed was simply a well-designed outlet for my work. i went through about 17(!) different
designs before finally deciding on this one. perhaps one day in the future, i will create a masterwork of sorts, but for now i do not have that kind of time.
i am currently working hard on acquiring all of the footage to the many projects i have been dping. there are some very promising projects looming on the
horizon including two features, more spec-commercials, and a few music videos. i will share more information with you as it comes.

this news section will also serve as a semi-blog of sorts for me to mention whatever i feel like at the moment. i am not very into blogs specifically,
but you can watch this area in the future for small announcements that don't necessarily relate to the film/television industry.
again, thank you for being so patient with the redesign of my site. i will be updating both my cinematography and photography portfolios regularly. enjoy your stay!
